BOLDR x Five In A Row - Rowing Across The Atlantic Ocean For A Charitable Cause
BOLDR Supply Company is working with a rowing crew known as Five In A Row on their mission to row across the Atlantic Ocean. Duncan Hughes, Clive Rooney, Ian Baird, Ross McKinney, and Fraser Potter make up the Five In A Row crew that are currently competing in the 2021 Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge (TWAC), while raising funds for the Reverse Rett charity. In support of their cause, BOLDR has created a brand new Venture model for each member of the crew to utilize and keep track of their rowing shifts as needed. The watches are also available for purchase on BOLDR’s website, with 15% of proceeds going to their cause.
The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge (TWAC) is described as “The World’s Toughest Rowing Race”, in which the crew will take turns rowing in 2-hour shifts, 24 hours a day, pushing the boundaries of endurance and stamina. A band of passionate rowers based in Scotland, they met several years ago through a local rowing club, Coastal Rowing, and eventually hatched the idea to compete in this extreme race. Beyond personal interests, they found a compelling reason to attempt the challenge, which is to raise awareness of Reverse Rett.
Reverse Rett is a charity that has been a great support to Ross and his daughter Eliza who suffers from Rett Syndrome, a neurological condition that causes lifelong disabilities and medical complexities to its victims. By spreading the word through their endeavor, the crew aim to raise $110,000 in support of families affected by Rett Syndrome (around $30,000 raised thus far).
Upon learning of their daring adventure, BOLDR Supply Co. created a special Venture model for the crew to keep on-schedule. The watch is a titanium BOLDR Venture with new features created specifically for the Five In A Row crew, namely a two-tone tide indicator on the bezel and a 10 o'clock crown position to avoid damage to the wrist while rowing. The bezel has a 12 hour scale to indicate the tides, but more importantly it helps the rowers easily keep track of 2 hour shifts.
