BOLDR’s Third Ultra-Black Timepiece Inspired By A Deep-Sea Predator

SINGAPORE, March 2023: BOLDR is pleased to release a third Musou Black timepiece known as the Black Dragonfish, named after the formidable deep-sea creature with elite predatory instincts. Brooding, toothy, and elusive, the brand adapted the dragonfish’s appearance using Superkuro Musou Black on the dial, purposefully devoid of indexes to accentuate its dark look. Packed with adventure-ready specifications, users can jump the local hour hand for time zone adjustments courtesy of a Miyota 9075 “flyer” GMT movement, with a glow of BGW9 Superluminova on its subtle indexes. The Black Dragonfish comes out of hiding on March 11th 2023.

A little-known creature, the black dragonfish belongs to the deep-sea fish family Stomiidae which includes the snaggletooth and viperfish. Capable of bioluminescence, they can hunt prey almost twice their size, luring them in with a luminescent barbel (chin whisker) right into the path of sharp, jagged jaws. Their fangs are a mass of nanoparticle crystals that do not reflect its bioluminescence, causing a highly effective distraction for prey. It’s no surprise BOLDR chose this fascinating predator as the inspiration for this piece.

"As adventurers at heart, we're thrilled to unveil the Black Dragonfish, our latest tribute to the mysterious deep-sea predator. Inspired by the creature's stealth and resilience, this timepiece boasts not just intricate design elements but also captures the essence of exploration, marrying innovation with a nod to the ocean's enigmatic beauty." remarks Leon, founder of BOLDR.

The dial is proprietary Superkuro Musou Black that absorbs 99.4% of light, while the case is coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC) to mimic the heavy black pigmented scales that cover the dragonfish’s body. Glowing BGW9 markers represent the creature’s bioluminescence on the hands & selected markings, a stark visual in low-light settings.

In its heart ticks the Miyota 9075 GMT movement, with a ‘jumping’ local hour hand for a quick & painless time adjustment for up to two time zones. The seconds-hand moves with a rapid but fluid motion, ticking 28,800 times in an hour. The hands move in smaller increments compared to those with lower beat rates, resulting in a smoother sweep and better performance. Akin to witnessing a perfectly choreographed dance, each tick is a testament to the intricacy and precision of the watch's mechanism. The movement is also protected by Parashock, an in-built shock absorption system that maintains functionality even if the watch gets knocked about in the field.

The layer of DLC adds further protection to its robust 40mm titanium case, which is rated for 30ATM and offers a host of benefits such as versatility, lightweight, hypoallergenic nature, and comfort. To complement its deep-sea theme, the designers worked their magic with custom artwork for the caseback; a black dragonfish navigating in deep sea currents, while the bracelet buckle-art salutes the Wave of Kanagawa, a signature feature of BOLDR’s ocean-friendly pieces.
